Many of the patients we see with hearing loss also have balance disturbance. As part of our comprehensive Audiological investigation we include questions related to balance disturbance in our Case History. A thorough case history will assist in determining the diagnosis of the patient. The true definition of ‘Vertigo’ is the sensation of motion with respect to gravity when there is none. This can be associated with a peripheral (Semicircular Canals in the ear) or a Central abnormality. Our Audiological evaluation includes a subjective assessment of symptoms as well as clinical testing. We will recommend referral to a Neuro-Otologist for further investigation. The most common reason for balance disturbance is benign and responds well to treatment.
