Appointment types, times and fees

These fees are current as of October 2026. Eligible pensioners and Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) clients are mostly covered under the Hearing Services Program. A valid referral lets you claim a Medicare rebate on a hearing assessment.

Full adult hearing assessment

This suits anyone who has noticed a change in their hearing, has had ear problems or has been referred by a doctor. It includes a written report to your GP.

What the assessment includes
  • Otoscopy, a close look into the ear canal and at the eardrum with a lit scope
  • Tympanometry, a test of how your eardrum moves, and if needed, reflex testing, which checks whether the small muscles in your middle ear react to loud sound
  • Air and bone conduction testing: the quietest sounds you can hear through headphones, and through a small vibrating pad behind the ear. The pad sends sound straight to the inner ear.
  • Speech testing, in quiet and with background noise, to see how clearly you make out words
  • A full explanation of your results and what we recommend, and a report to your GP

Hearing screening

This is a quick check for people with no history of hearing problems who have not been referred by a doctor. It includes an ear examination, a basic eardrum test, a headphone hearing test and a short explanation.

This is a yearly check for returning clients, with or without hearing aids. It covers your hearing levels and medical history, and includes an adjustment and service of your aids. No referral is needed.

Hearing aid repair

Repairs start at $28 per aid. If a repair will cost more, we inspect the aid and give you a quote before any work is done.

What to bring

  • Your referral, if you have one. You need it for a Medicare rebate.
  • Your private health fund card or pension card.
  • Results from any earlier hearing tests, if you have them.

How soon you can be seen

  • We can usually see you within a week for an assessment, a review or a hearing aid problem.
  • Urgent appointments are kept free every day for sudden hearing loss or a hearing aid that has stopped working.
  • Cochlear implant appointments are booked further ahead.

For an assessment or wax removal we need your medical history. The forms are usually emailed to you before the appointment. If that is not possible, reception will help you fill them in when you arrive.
