Who owns the clinic
Family owned since August 2025
Specialist Hearing Services has been serving the community for almost two decades, including approximately nine years from our Mount Hawthorn clinic. The clinic has built its reputation on careful, personal and professional hearing care, and this is the standard of service we are committed to continuing.
Chris van Wijngaarden and Sara Caspani took over the clinic in August 2025, just as their twin daughters arrived. Chris comes from a family in hearing care: his grandfather was an ear, nose and throat specialist, and his parents founded their own hearing clinic in the Netherlands.
Chris and Sara's aim is to offer longer appointments and to order each hearing aid for the individual client, rather than sell from stock. If you do not need a hearing aid yet, we will tell you.
How the clinic runs
Day to day at the clinic

We check every fitting with real-ear measurement: a thin, soft tube in your ear canal measures the sound the aid delivers, so it can be matched to your hearing test.

Most consumables are kept in stock, and loan hearing aids are on hand if yours are broken or lost.

Most repairs are done in the clinic rather than sent interstate or overseas.

We book a full hearing assessment for 1 to 1.5 hours and a tinnitus assessment for 1.5 to 2 hours, so there is time for every question.

Earwax can be removed by syringing (flushing with water), suction (a fine vacuum tube) or curetting (lifting it out with a small instrument), depending on the type of wax.

We are open on Saturday mornings, and we can see you after hours if you ask.

Every hearing aid comes with at least a 3-year warranty, and most can be extended to 4 years.
