What happens

What a full hearing test involves

The clinician measures what you can hear and how clearly you follow speech, then explains the results on the day using models of the ear.

  1. 01

    Your priorities first

    A proper conversation

We start with the situations you find difficult and what you want to improve.

  2. 02

    Before any testing

    Ear health check

We examine each ear and explain anything that needs medical attention.

  3. 03

    Usually 1 to 1.5 hours

    Complete hearing assessment

We find the quietest sounds you can hear, through headphones and a small pad behind the ear. We also test how clearly you follow speech in quiet and in noise.

  4. 04

    Explained on the day

    Results and a clear plan

You leave knowing your results, your options, and whether you need to do anything at all.

What we measure

What a full hearing test measures

A $100 screening is a 30-minute check of your ears, your eardrum and the quietest sounds you hear. The $240 full assessment adds bone conduction testing, through a small pad behind the ear, and speech testing. It shows where in the ear any problem lies.

  • Hearing level

The quietest sounds you can hear

We find the softest sound you can detect at each pitch, testing one ear at a time.

  • Speech

    How clearly you understand speech

We test how well you can make out words. You may hear that someone is talking and still miss what they say, especially in a noisy room.

  • Ear health

The health of the ear itself

We can take images of your ear canal with our camera equipment. Relevant images can go in our reports to your GP or an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist.

Cost and funding

Who pays for a hearing test

Eligible pensioners and Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) clients may be covered by the Hearing Services Program. Everyone else pays $240 for a full assessment, and a valid referral lets you claim a Medicare rebate.

  • Hearing Services Program

    Eligible pensioners and DVA clients

The clinic holds a contract with the Australian Government to provide hearing services under the program. Most of the cost of assessments and reviews is billed directly to the program, and we tell you at the time if any fee applies.

What to doBring your pension or DVA card. We can check your eligibility at the clinic.

  • Medicare rebate

    Anyone with a valid referral

A Medicare rebate on a hearing assessment needs a valid referral. We lodge the claim for you, and Medicare pays the rebate into your nominated bank account.

What to doBring the referral with you. Reception can tell you whether yours qualifies.

  • WorkCover WA, DVA and NDIS

Work-related claims, veterans and NDIS participants

We prepare or lodge the paperwork each scheme needs. What it covers is decided by the scheme, and it differs from person to person.

What to doTell reception which scheme applies when you book.

  • Paying privately

Anyone without a card, a referral or a scheme

If your health fund covers audiology, it pays its rebate to you once you send it the receipt and invoice.

What to doAsk reception which appointment suits you before you book.

Who it is for

Who should have a hearing test

If any of these apply to you, a full assessment will show where your hearing stands.

  1. 01

Adults who suspect their hearing has changed

You may be turning the television up, or asking people to repeat themselves more than you used to.

  2. 02

Pensioner Concession Card holders and DVA clients

You may be eligible under the Hearing Services Program, an Australian Government scheme, and we can check this at the clinic.

  3. 03

Anyone referred by a doctor, or with past ear problems

If a doctor has been treating your ears, a full assessment shows where the problem is, and we send them a report.

  4. 04

People who may need a cochlear implant

A 2 to 2.5 hour assessment shows whether an implant would help more than a hearing aid.

  5. 05

    People with tinnitus

A tinnitus assessment takes 1.5 to 2 hours. It combines questionnaires about the sound and its effect on you with a full hearing assessment, and is the basis for a plan to manage it.

  6. 06

People with dizziness or balance concerns

We do not carry out balance assessments. We can assess your hearing and refer you to an appropriate balance clinic or your GP.

Wonderful admin staff, had everything sorted for me because I arrived. The hearing test was efficient and friendly and the clinician was fantastic and explained the results to me in a method that was easy to understand. I’d highly recommend the company. Would happily return

Not automatically. For eligible pensioners and DVA clients, the Australian Government Hearing Services Program covers most of the cost, and we can check whether you qualify. Everyone else pays privately, and a valid referral lets you claim a Medicare rebate on the assessment.
